(Up from 2 students, so bear with us as we adjust a bit!)
Our Introductory Welding Class is designed to give you the background information necessary to make an educated purchase of a welder and efficiently repair your rusted out lawnmower. We concentrate on MIG welding with a small introduction and exposure to TIG welding. In this class, you’ll get lots of hands on experience troubleshooting common problems, testing out several popular brands and models of welders, and mastering the necessary settings to sufficiently weld some things to some other things.
Want to weld some things? Let’s weld some things!
This is a crash course, but it’s the only alternative we could find to a 40 hour certification course. If you have no interest in a career as a pipeline welder but really want to repair your rusted out lawnmower- join us! No Experience Necessary, join us!
We will explore “How to buy a MIG welder” and discuss several brands and models on the market- then we’ll test a few of these out and help you find the welder you really dream to own! We’ll talk about gas bottles, how big a gas bottle you need, how to transport gas bottles, how to troubleshoot kinked wire, how to replace burnt out tips, how to tell when you have a bad ground or when you’re getting bad shielding gas flow. We’ll cover how to determine settings and adjust to overcome any situation, how to prep your material, clean your welds, etc.
We’re going to talk about welding aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, gold, etc-
but we’ll concentrate on welding commonly available carbon steel- what you’d likely use for your home fabrication.
Want to step up your wood working game and fabricate some metal bases for tables and that desk you’ve been dreaming up? These skills will help!
This is western PA, how big is the hole in your car? These skills will help!
Your lawnmower still runs well, but the deck rusted out, these skills will help!
The class size is limited to 3 students If you’ve got a partner to learn to weld with, we can schedule it for any day of the week.
The cost for this class is $200/person and covers all materials for this 4 hour class.
We’ve had to raise the price from $175 to $200 due to the rising cost of steel. Even at this price- we actually take a loss on this class. Sharing welding with you is a passion of mine, so if we can get close to breaking even…. I run it, just not very often and for now-always on a weekday. (You consume $75-$100 JUST IN STEEL in this class!)
WE DO NOT OFFER ANY CLASSES TO MINORS (It’s an insurance thing…)
Classes will take place at production blacksmithing studio in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Additional information will be emailed to those who sign up, usually one to two days before the class.
