Coffee Scoops! (Super Easy)

People LOVE coffee, and I bet you’re scooping the fanciest beans from your favorite artisanal roaster with an old rubber spatula or a random measuring cup from your drawer. Well, let’s change that!
In this class, each student will make a pretty awesome had hammered coffee scoop!

More details and better pictures coming soon! Work in progress.

THIS IS A PILOT CLASS, meaning some things have not been fully worked out yet. We’ve been secretly running through it with our friends, and we’re excited to have you! Just understand, we’re not necessarily perfectly set on the designs, options, pricing, etc- so we’re offering it at a discounted price from what our planned price is when the class becomes in our regular roster, and we might want to plan for the opportunity to go an hour over if it comes to it. Currently, we have two different handle options and one scoop option, but in the future- we plan to offer a variety of interchangeable parts to this class, stay tuned for some exciting things there! : )

In this two hour class each person will start with a precision laser cut puck of copper and a laser cut stainless steel handle. The class begins with pressing the copper puck on our 25 ton hydraulic press, then hand hammering it to the desired texture, covering it with some awesome and classically styled dents mimicking the process of “angle raising”- the traditional way this would be done. Don’t worry, that process sucks and takes forever, you’d be exhausted- we have a 25 ton press that’ll make that super easy!
After denting up our copper scoop, we move on to the handle. The handle is as simple as warming it up and forging some texture into it, shaping it to better conform to the scoop, and positioning the handle with the curves you desire. We save the absolute most riveting of experiences for last, riveting.
The copper scoop is attached to the stainless handle through traditional “Solid Rivets”, a really fun and cool process. Once you’ve done some riveting by hand, you’ll never look at one of our many iconic bridges in Pittsburgh the same way again!
Look, you need a coffee scoop, we have some components- let’s make something awesome, together! It’s a great date night. Just keep in mind, each person makes one scoop, and the class is designed for 4 people- not four couples. If you’re bringing a date, you need to book two spots.
